FRONT GALLERY: 'Collection A'

by Synden Grieve
Friday 5 June - Friday 3 July
(Opening Night Friday 5th June 6pm - 9pm)

Synden Grieve is interested in concepts of collection, archiving, layering and mass production. Working with found objects, primarily discarded waste, the artist creates installation works focusing on the themes of consumerism, mass, waste and accumulation.  The artist is also interested in re-defining the discarded into ascetically and socially engaging works.  This work concentrates on the plastic bag as a medium and a subject.

BACK GALLERY: "Aftermath"

by Rebecca Delange
Friday 5 June - Friday 3 July
(Opening Night Friday 5th June 6pm - 9pm)

Aftermath is an installation work that explores the possibility that immaterial things, such as fears, thoughts, secrets, and ideas, can manifest as three-dimensional forms and exist tangibly in our reality.  The work is an investigation into materials, actions and process that are combined to articulate these ideas in spatially responsive sculptural assemblages.  Aftermath engages in a dialogue between controlled making and uncontrolled action, and is part of an ongoing installation project that exists in a state of flux never finding a permanently still place of rest or definitive answer and resolution.

UPSTAIRS GALLERY: "Images of Iran"

by Liz Bottomley
Friday 5 June - Friday 3 July
(Opening Night Friday 5th June 6pm - 9pm)

Pursuing an interest in the Middle East, I travelled to Iran for a few weeks in 2007. I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the country; both demonstrated through the generosity of strangers, and the awe-inspiring architectural and historical sites. Upon returning to Australia I felt frustrated at the general perception of Iran being an oppressive breeding-ground for terrorists. These photographs provide a small glimpse into another perspective on everyday Iran.
